Built in the open.

One self-taught developer, one modular engine — built in public toward an open-source release in October 2026.

I'm Grzegorz Otto, a self-taught programmer. I've always played games and always wanted to build my own — and I'm relentlessly organized, so the fast, cheap, sloppy corner of the industry was never going to fit. I'd rather build the thing I believe in, done properly.

I learned in the open, one layer at a time — JavaScript, React, strict TypeScript and React Native, Kotlin and Swift, then C++. Around my seventieth small game, the first I took seriously, the same patterns kept reappearing across everything I wanted to build. So I pulled them out, module by module. That became Flare Engine: a modular, TypeScript-first 2D engine that runs one codebase on iOS, Android, and the web.

I'm in this for the long run. The plan is written down — ship two showcase games on the engine, then open development up properly (the issues already exist) — and I want to make a living doing work I care about. Pick a demo on the home page and the hero runs real engine packages in your browser via CanvasKit — the kind of proof I'd rather show than describe. Flare goes fully open source under Apache-2.0 at the October 2026 launch — until then, the best thing you can do is leave your email and follow the build on the devlog.
