// License

Apache-2.0.

Flare Engine is licensed Apache-2.0 — permissive, with an express patent grant. That is true today, not a promise about launch.

What is still pending is access, not the license. The source repository is private and the @flare-engine/* packages publish to npm withaccess: restricted, so they are not yet publicly installable. At the October 2026 launch the repository opens and the packages publish unrestricted.

The relicense landed in July 2026. Versions 0.1.0 through 0.2.1were released under MIT and remain MIT on npm; 0.3.0 and later are Apache-2.0.

Apache-2.0 lets you use, modify, and ship commercial products built with the engine, and adds an explicit patent grant. The Flare Engine name and logo are a reserved trademark of Grzegorz Otto — the code license does not grant trademark rights.

The showcase game Pan Tvardowski is not covered by the engine license: it is a separate, non-commercial work under the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license.
