// License
Apache-2.0 at launch.
Flare Engine goes fully open source under the Apache-2.0 license at its October 2026 launch — permissive, with an express patent grant.
Until then the source repository is private and the @flare-engine/* packages are published to npm with access: restricted, so they are not yet publicly installable. At the launch flip the repository opens, the packages publish unrestricted, and the license is Apache-2.0.
Apache-2.0 lets you use, modify, and ship commercial products built with the engine, and adds an explicit patent grant. The Flare Engine name and logo are a reserved trademark of Grzegorz Otto — the code license does not grant trademark rights.
The showcase game Pan Tvardowski is not covered by the engine license: it is a separate, non-commercial work under the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license.
